Where history & celebration come together

Meet The Team

Huntsville Mercantile in Huntsville, UT is owned and operated by Richard and Regen Sorensen, who take a hands-on role in caring for the venue and supporting the people who celebrate here.

Having grown up around the building and spent years hosting weddings and gatherings, they understand what makes an event feel smooth, comfortable, and well paced.

What we love most about this work is helping people bring together the ones they care about in a setting that feels easy and welcoming. Our approach is practical and flexible, shaped by experience and an understanding that no two celebrations are the same. We focus on the details that matter, while keeping the process clear and uncomplicated so you can stay focused on the people you’re celebrating with.

Owner & Host

Richard Sorensen

Richard has a deep, lifelong connection to Huntsville Mercantile. The building has been part of his family since the early 1950s, when his father took over the general store, and caring for it has always felt personal. That history shapes how Richard approaches the venue today, with a strong sense of stewardship, pride, and responsibility to both the building and the people who gather here.

Professionally, Richard brings decades of experience managing complex logistics and working with people under pressure, skills that translate naturally to hosting weddings and events. He is hands on, practical, and focused on making sure things run smoothly without unnecessary rules or complications.

Outside the venue, Richard is deeply rooted in the Huntsville community and values family, relationships, and time spent together. He believes the best celebrations are the ones where people feel comfortable, supported, and free to enjoy being with one another.

fun facts

The building has been in the same family since the 1950s

Built in 1893, Huntsville Mercantile has been cared for by just three families over its lifetime. The Sorensen family has owned the building since the early 1950s, and that long history shows in the pride, stewardship, and care that go into maintaining the space today.

You work directly with the owners

Richard and Regen are hands on and closely involved from start to finish. You’re not passed between staff members or layers of management. You’re working directly with the people who know the building best and care deeply about how your celebration feels.

You’re free to choose your own vendors

Once booked, we’re happy to share our preferred vendor list as a helpful resource, but you’re always welcome to bring in your own vendors as well. We don’t require exclusive partnerships, and we don’t take a percentage of vendor fees, giving you the freedom to build a team that fits your vision and your budget.

The venue is yours for the entire day

You have access to the space from early in the morning through late in the evening. That means time to set up without stress, enjoy the celebration without rushing, and truly experience the full day without watching the clock.

Plenty of free, on site parking

Parking is simple and included. Guests don’t need to search for spots, pay fees, or rely on shuttles just to arrive. It’s one less logistical detail for you and your guests to worry about.

On site lodging keeps everyone together

Having lodging on site allows close family and friends to stay nearby, slow down, and spend more time together throughout the celebration. It adds ease to the weekend and keeps the focus on being together.

We believe celebrations should feel comfortable

Our goal is to create an environment where people feel relaxed, welcomed, and free to enjoy being together. When guests are comfortable, conversations linger, connections deepen, and the celebration feels exactly as it should.
